6 Indirect Benefits of Pinterest for Businesses

There are tons of benefits of Pinterest for businesses! From reaching new clients and customers to growing your email list to getting more YouTube subscribers, there are so many ways that using Pinterest strategically can help grow your business.

But one thing I get asked about a lot is about why businesses should be on Pinterest if they’re not sure they can get clients directly from Pinterest or even if they don’t necessarily want to get clients from Pinterest.

So that’s why I want to talk about some of the indirect benefits of Pinterest for businesses! Because even if you’re not sure if you can get clients and customers right from Pinterest, there are lots of ways that website traffic from Pinterest can help your business grow 🙂

6 Indirect Benefits of Pinterest for Businesses

It can help you rank higher on Google

I feel like this benefit of Pinterest isn’t talked about nearly enough! But yes, Pinterest can help you rank higher on Google—in two different ways.

The more quality traffic you drive to your site (which Pinterest is a great platform for), the more it signals to Google that people are interested in your website. There are literally hundreds of different ranking metrics, but Google wants to rank the best quality sites that people are engaged with the highest. They don’t want to rank sites that no one is interested in at the top.

So the more quality traffic you get from Pinterest (or really any other platform), the more it signals that people like your site, which can help your website rankings on Google increase!

And the second way you can rank on Google with Pinterest is actually by your pins, boards, and profile ranking on Google, which will help increase your website traffic. I’ve written an entire blog post on how to optimize your Pinterest account to help it rank higher on Google if you want more details on that.

You can increase your ads and affiliate marketing revenue

This benefit of Pinterest is pretty straightforward, but if you have ads and/or affiliate links on your site, getting more traffic to your site from Pinterest can help increase that revenue.

Now some of you might be thinking that ads or affiliate links aren’t relevant to your business, but they can actually work really well for most businesses!

Just to give you some ideas, if you’re an interior designer, you could create a blog post featuring different faucet ideas for kitchen sinks and include affiliate links to make money whenever someone purchases one of the faucets. If you’re a copywriter, you could create a blog post on your favorite tools for writing copy and add affiliate links to them. Or you could put an ad for a company or do a sponsored post for your favorite tool.

Or you could even just write a blog post on whatever you want and add affiliate links naturally, like how my blog posts on Pinterest often recommend the scheduling tool Tailwind! Yes, that is my affiliate link to Tailwind 😉 But see how you can add affiliate links naturally? The possibilities are endless!

You can get more brand awareness

Some businesses just want to increase their brand visibility, and Pinterest is a great way to do that. It can be so much easier to reach new people on Pinterest because 96% of searches on Pinterest are unbranded.

That means that almost everyone searching on Pinterest isn’t searching for a brand and it can be easier to compete with bigger brands! For example, instead of searching for “Nike sneakers,” more people are searching unbranded phrases like “running shoes for women.”

So you can more easily increase your brand visibility and connect with people when people are searching for what you have to offer and not for bigger companies.

It can help you get more press features

Along with getting more brand visibility, another benefit of Pinterest is being able to be found by people looking for brands to feature. I’ve had my own photos for my travel website found by a national magazine for features, and I’ve heard from people like interior designers and wedding planners that their work was found by the press on Pinterest!

So if you want an organic way to do PR and be found by magazines, the press is definitely using Pinterest to find businesses for features.

You can take ownership of your ideas

This is one benefit of Pinterest that I hadn’t considered until I got a recent inquiry, but it makes so much sense!

The inquiry that I got was from an artist, and she really wanted to have a presence on Pinterest so that when people would search for her unique style of work, she would be found. She didn’t need to get clients from Pinterest, but she wanted to make sure people were finding her pins and her website so that other people wouldn’t claim credit for her photos.

Even if you’re not an artist, you can use Pinterest to make sure that you have ownership over your photos, blog posts, courses, YouTube videos, brand assets, etc. So that if someone goes to Pinterest to search for you or your ideas, they can easily be directed back to your website and not elsewhere!

You can easily plan projects with clients

If your business has a visual component like photography, design, or events, Pinterest can be a great way to collaborate with clients and get all their ideas in one place. You can create boards with clients to present ideas or for them to put their inspiration, and if you don’t want to be publicly pinning those ideas, you can have private boards!

Or another way to do this is to have some boards that are like a portfolio to easily show clients your work and what you can do. And if those boards are public, that’s doubly beneficial because you can use them as a portfolio AND have your pins rank on Pinterest to reach even more new people.

So yes, you can definitely use Pinterest to reach new clients and customers! But you can also get all of these indirect benefits of Pinterest to help you grow your business in other ways.
